And it isn”t as if Tom Hanks is too cool to be a Harvard professor. The result is a Langdon who seems too similar to that two-time Oscar winner who is a decidedly capable actor yet fails to portray himself as more nerdy. Nor does the film”s audience see him cringe during the embarrassing introduction at the lecture which opens both film and novel that mentions his female students describing his voice as “chocolate for the ears.” The mention of a man with such a voice hardly conjures up an image of Tom Hanks. ![]() For example, the film adapts Langdon without his tweed suit, which goes a long way in characterization. Like any film adapted from a book, many descriptive details about symbology professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) are left out. “The Da Vinci Code” doesn”t fail to entertain, but what it does lack is characterization.
